Terms of use
The agreement between you and us when you use Newbie Parents: what you can expect from us, what we ask of you, and which law applies.
On this page
The short version
- Newbie Parents is a free shared baby log for your family, run by Jargonaut Labs Pte. Ltd. in Singapore.
- Only add a child's information if you're their parent or guardian, or are allowed to act for them.
- Use your family's information only to care for your child, and respect each person's role.
- It isn't medical advice or an emergency service. In a life-threatening emergency in Singapore, call 995.
- You can leave a family or delete your account at any time. Singapore law applies to these terms.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Jargonaut Labs Pte. Ltd. (UEN 202639127H, registered office 60 Paya Lebar Road, #07-54, Paya Lebar Square, Singapore 409051), the Singapore company that runs Newbie Parents. "We", "us" and "our" mean that company.
They cover the Newbie Parents apps, this website and any private web version we make available (together, "Newbie Parents").
When you create an account, or accept a new version of these terms in the app, you agree to that version. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data. If you don't agree, please don't create an account or keep using one.
Who can use Newbie Parents
There's no minimum age of 18. You can use Newbie Parents if you can understand these terms and make this agreement. If the law says you need someone else's permission first, get that permission before you use it.
Don't give a false picture of who you are, or of what you're allowed to do.
Adding a child
If you add a child's information, you confirm that you're the child's parent or guardian, or are allowed to act for them. Don't add, look at or share a child's information without the right or permission to do so.
"Owner" is a role in the app for managing the family. It doesn't mean we have checked that anyone is a parent, guardian or carer, or checked any custody or family relationship.
We don't decide custody, guardianship or family disputes, and claims sent to us don't change who has access on their own. Families need to settle these matters outside Newbie Parents.
We'll act where a court order or other binding legal requirement says we must.
Family roles
- An Owner sees the family and its children, manages who's in the family and their roles, sends invitations, manages children's profiles, adds or accepts other Owners, deletes a child and can close the family.
- A Caregiver sees the family's shared history, adds and edits care entries, and can invite a Helper for the children they can see. A Caregiver can cancel their own pending Helper invitation, and remove a Helper they invited.
- A Helper sees only the children shared with them, and only the recent care described when they accept.
- A Helper can add the everyday entries allowed, and change or delete only their own entries within 24 hours.
If the app shows a narrower permission than this summary, the app is what applies. Don't try to get around a role, a child's sharing, a time limit or any other access control.
Invitations and Owners
An invitation is only for the person at the email address it was sent to, and it expires after the time shown in the app. Don't forward it or post it publicly.
It works only if the person who sent it can still invite, and the role and children it covers are still valid.
If you invite someone, choose them and their access with care. If you're invited, check the role before accepting, and use your access only to help care for the child.
Becoming an Owner needs the new Owner to accept. An existing Owner stays an Owner until their role changes.
If you're the only Owner, add another Owner or close the family before you leave or delete your account. You can always choose to close the family, so you won't be stuck.
Using Newbie Parents fairly
Please:
- add only information you're allowed to add, and take reasonable care that it's accurate;
- use your family's information only to care for your child;
- respect the privacy and safety of children and everyone in your family;
- stay within the role and children the app gives you; and
- tell us quickly if you think an account, invitation or family space has been compromised.
Please don't:
- look at, share, copy or use a child's or family's information without permission;
- pretend to be someone else, misstate a relationship, share your sign-in or pass an invitation to someone else;
- use Newbie Parents to harass, threaten, watch, exploit or endanger anyone, or to pursue a family dispute;
- upload anything unlawful, harmful, misleading or that breaks someone else's rights;
- probe, disrupt, overload, reverse engineer or get around Newbie Parents or its security, except where the law clearly allows it; or
- use bots, scraping or other automated access, unless we provide a way to do it.
Keeping your account safe
Keep your sign-in and your phones secure, and use only your own account. You're responsible for what happens through your account where you didn't take reasonable care, but not for events outside your reasonable control.
If you think someone else has used your account, email support@newbieparents.app.
To protect you or your family, we may sign out sessions, cancel invitations, restrict an account or ask you to sign in again.
Your entries
Your family's entries are shared according to each person's role. Every entry stays linked to the account that added it.
The app shows "You" to the person who added it, and their current name in the family to everyone else. Changing a name doesn't change who added an entry.
Don't treat someone else's entry as checked medical fact. If an entry is wrong, correct it where your role allows, or ask an Owner or Caregiver to add a clear correction.
What you add stays yours. You give us a limited, non-exclusive permission (a licence) to store, process, copy and show it, only as needed to run, secure and support Newbie Parents and meet our legal duties.
This ends when the entry is deleted, apart from backups that expire on their own and the limited records described in our privacy policy.
Leaving and deleting
Leaving a family ends your access to it, but your account and the entries you added stay while your account is active.
You can delete your account in the app, in More, then Settings, then Account settings and deletion, then Delete account, or through our account deletion page.
This ends your access and deletes your account and personal data within 30 days, including every care entry you added, so your family's history and summaries may change. We don't move your entries to anyone else.
Only an Owner can delete a child or close a family, in More, then Settings, then Family & household. This affects everyone in the family. Deleting the last child closes the family.
Health and safety
Newbie Parents is for recording your child's care and showing general guidance from named sources. It isn't a medical device, a healthcare provider or an emergency service.
It doesn't diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, prescribe treatment, work out medicine doses, check that entries are correct, or replace advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
Don't rely on it to spot an emergency or to remind you on time. If you're worried about your child's health, speak to a doctor or other qualified healthcare professional.
In a life-threatening emergency in Singapore, don't wait for the app: call 995. Elsewhere, call your local emergency number.
Price
Newbie Parents is free to use. If we offer optional paid extras in the future, we'll show you the price and any extra terms before you pay anything.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep Newbie Parents reliable, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.
Problems with the internet, your phone, app stores or our providers can delay syncing, notifications or access. Keep another way to reach information you'd need in an urgent situation.
We may change, pause or stop a feature where that's reasonably needed for security, the law, a change by one of our providers or running the service.
We'll give reasonable notice of a significant planned change where we can. We don't promise that a future or experimental feature will arrive.
Limiting or ending access
You can stop using Newbie Parents, leave a family or delete your account at any time.
We may limit or end your access where we reasonably believe it's needed because of a serious breach of these terms, unlawful use, a security risk, harm to someone else, a legal requirement, or because we're closing the service.
Where we can, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to put things right. We may act straight away where waiting would create a security, legal or safety risk.
Ending your access doesn't let us keep your data for longer than our privacy policy or the law allows.
Our app and brand
Newbie Parents, apart from your entries and material from the sources we link to, belongs to or is licensed to Jargonaut Labs Pte. Ltd., and is protected by intellectual property law.
These terms give you a personal, limited, non-transferable right to use Newbie Parents to care for your child, which we can withdraw under these terms. They don't give you our brand, software, design or other rights.
Links and commercial content
We link to hospitals, public health agencies and other sources so you can see where guidance comes from. Each organisation is responsible for its own material, and a link doesn't mean it endorses Newbie Parents.
If we ever include product recommendations, affiliate links or sponsorship, we'll label them clearly and keep them separate from health and safety guidance, official information, your family's log and Insights.
Our responsibility to you
We work hard to keep Newbie Parents accurate and available, but as far as the law allows, it's provided "as available".
We don't promise that every entry, calculation, source link, notification or outside service will always be accurate, complete, up to date or available.
You're responsible for decisions about your child's care, and for checking anything that matters to health or safety with a suitable professional.
As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss that wasn't reasonably foreseeable when you accepted these terms, or for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit or exclude, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Rights you have under the law that can't be taken away aren't affected.
Singapore law and disputes
These terms, and any dispute about them or about Newbie Parents, are governed by the laws of Singapore.
If something goes wrong, please email support@newbieparents.app first, and we'll try in good faith to sort it out with you. You don't need to wait if an urgent need or a legal deadline makes that impractical.
Any dispute that isn't resolved this way will be decided by the courts of Singapore.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the service, the law, our providers or the risks change. We'll show the version and effective date at the top.
For a significant change, we'll give you reasonable notice and, where appropriate, ask you to accept the new version in the app before you carry on using your account. Small wording fixes take effect when we publish them.
When you accept, we record your account, the version, the time, the app version and your language setting. We don't ordinarily record your IP address, an ID document or a device fingerprint for this.
