The short version

  • We collect what's needed to run a shared baby log for your family, and what your family chooses to record.
  • Only people in your family space can see your family's records, and what each person sees depends on their role.
  • We don't sell personal data, and we don't use it for advertising.
  • This website only counts your visit if you say yes, and you can change your mind at any time.
  • Our service providers store data outside Singapore. We take steps to keep it protected to the standard Singapore law expects.
  • You can ask to see or correct your data at any time. Deleting your account removes your data from our live systems within 30 days.

Who we are

Newbie Parents is run by Jargonaut Labs Pte. Ltd. (UEN 202639127H), a company registered in Singapore. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean that company.

This policy explains how we handle personal data in the Newbie Parents apps for iPhone and Android, on this website, and in any private web version of Newbie Parents we make available.

Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) sets the rules we work to. Our Data Protection Officer is Frank Tan, and you can reach them at privacy@newbieparents.app.

What we collect

Your account

Your email address, your display name, how you sign in (for example, with Google), and records that keep your account secure, such as sign-in sessions and verification or recovery records.

If you sign in with Google, Google shares the details its sign-in screen tells you about. We don't ask for your NRIC number or your own date of birth.

We need these to create your account, sign you in, help you get back in, stop anyone else using it, and link what you do to the right family.

Your family and invitations

  • who is in your family space, and each person's role;
  • which children each person can see;
  • who invited whom, the email address an invitation went to, when it expires and whether it was accepted;
  • changes of Owner; and
  • the name each person shows in the family.

A family name may be made from the first child's name, and an Owner can change it. We need all of this to keep each family private and to show who added each entry.

Your child's profile

A child's name and date of birth are needed to create a profile, because age-based guidance and estimates must not guess a child's age. If a date of birth is missing, the app leaves out age-based guidance instead.

Other details are optional unless the screen says otherwise: sex, timezone, due date for a baby born early, allergies, current conditions, medicine instructions and a short care note. Please add only what your family needs.

What your family records

Feeds, breastfeeding, bottles, pumping, diapers, sleep, solids, medicine given, temperature, symptoms you notice, growth, milestones and notes, with times, amounts and any text you add.

For solids, this can include foods offered, allergens tried, reactions you note and serving details.

What to record is up to you. We use it to keep your family's shared log, run timers, work out summaries and nap estimates, and show general guidance from named sources.

A gap in your log counts as missing, never as zero, and we never treat an entry as a diagnosis.

Your phone and notifications

App version, phone type and operating system, language, timezone, IP address, and basic technical and security data created as you use the app.

We use these to run the app, show dates and times correctly, keep accounts secure and fix faults. We don't use advertising identifiers.

If you turn on notifications, we keep a notification token and your notification settings. Notifications are optional, and you can turn them off in the app or in your phone's settings.

When you contact us

Your message, your email address and what we need to answer it. Please don't send ID documents, medical records or more detail than the question needs.

If we have to check it's really you, we'll ask for as little as possible.

Security records

Limited records of sign-ins, family and invitation changes, the versions of our terms and this policy you were shown or accepted, privacy and deletion requests, admin actions and security incidents.

They help us protect families, show what was agreed or asked for, and meet our legal and app store duties. We take care to keep children's names, care notes, medicine details and symptoms out of our technical logs.

Information from other family members

Newbie Parents is shared. Someone in your family may give us your email address to invite you, or log care for a child before you join.

Once you join, others in the family see what you add, with your name beside it, according to their role.

If you give us information about someone else, make sure you're allowed to, and keep it accurate. Don't use Newbie Parents to share private information outside your family space.

Children's information

We treat information about children, and anything health-related, as sensitive. In practice that means:

  • We ask only for what the app needs to work: a child's name and date of birth. Everything else is optional.
  • Only people in your family space can see it, and a Helper sees much less than an Owner or Caregiver.
  • We never sell it, and we never use it for advertising or marketing.
  • Deleting a child or closing a family removes their data from our live systems within 30 days.

Newbie Parents is made for the people caring for a child, not for children to use themselves. If you add a child's information, you confirm that you're the child's parent or guardian, or are allowed to act for them.

"Owner" is a role in the app for managing the family. It doesn't prove a legal relationship. We don't decide custody or family disputes, and we don't change who has access because of competing claims sent to us.

We do follow court orders and other binding legal requirements.

Why we use it, and your consent

We use personal data only for these purposes, or where the law allows it:

  • to create your account, sign you in and keep it secure;
  • to set up family spaces, and make sure each person sees only what their role allows;
  • to send, accept and manage invitations and changes of Owner;
  • to store, sync and show your family's log;
  • to run timers, summaries, nap estimates and guidance from named sources;
  • to send the notifications you choose;
  • to answer questions and handle privacy requests;
  • to prevent, investigate and fix security problems, misuse and technical faults;
  • to keep limited records of what was agreed, requested or changed; and
  • to meet our legal duties and app store rules.

When you create an account, the app links to this policy and our terms. By going ahead, you consent to these purposes. Optional features, such as notifications, ask you separately, and you can turn them off at any time.

In a few cases the PDPA lets organisations use personal data without consent, such as in an emergency that threatens someone's life or safety. We rely on these only when they genuinely apply.

We don't sell personal data. We don't share family information with data brokers or use it for advertising. The companies listed under "Who else handles your data" process data to run Newbie Parents for us, which isn't a sale.

Who in your family sees what

  • Owner. Sees the family's children and records, manages who's in the family and their roles, sends invitations, manages children's profiles, and can delete a child or close the family. A family can have more than one Owner.
  • Caregiver. Sees the family's shared history, adds and edits care entries, and can invite a Helper for the children they can see. A Caregiver can remove only a Helper they invited.
  • Helper. Sees only the children shared with them: today's care, any running timer, the latest feed, sleep and diaper, and a short care card with essentials such as allergies.

A Helper can add bottles, diapers, solids, naps, night sleep, medicine, temperature, symptoms and notes, and can change or delete only their own entries within 24 hours.

A Helper can't see long-term history, Insights or growth, and can't manage people or profiles.

The app shows what each role can do before anyone accepts an invitation. When someone's access is removed, they can no longer see the family. What they added may stay with the family, as explained under "Deleting and leaving".

Who else handles your data

We use a small number of companies to run Newbie Parents. Depending on the feature you use, they include:

  • Convex, which stores the app's data and runs sign-in and syncing between phones;
  • Google, for Google sign-in and, where it applies, email, support and Android services;
  • Resend, which sends account, recovery and invitation emails, and the email confirming a waitlist sign-up;
  • Apple and Google, for the app stores, phone platform services and diagnostics, and notifications if you turn them on;
  • Cloudflare, which delivers this website and stores waitlist sign-ups and food suggestions;
  • PostHog, which counts visits to this website, only for visitors who choose Accept. We don't use it in the apps; and
  • Vercel, which runs any private web version of Newbie Parents.

These companies may use their own sub-processors. We give each one only what it needs for its job, although they also see technical details such as IP addresses when data passes through them.

We review their terms, security and deletion controls before launch, and regularly after that.

We may also share information:

  • when the law or a court requires it;
  • to protect someone from serious harm;
  • to investigate fraud, abuse or a security incident; or
  • if our business is sold or merged, with confidentiality and notice, and only with a lawful purpose and proper protection.

Storing data outside Singapore

Newbie Parents is run from Singapore, but our service providers may store or process personal data outside Singapore, including in the United States, Ireland and other places where they operate.

Where exactly depends on the provider, its settings and the phone platform you use. We can't promise that your data stays in Singapore.

If you let this website count your visit, PostHog stores those visit records in Germany. Waitlist sign-ups and food suggestions are stored by Cloudflare, usually in the Asia-Pacific region, and Resend sends the waitlist confirmation email from Japan, with its account records in the United States.

The PDPA requires personal data sent overseas to be protected to a standard comparable to the PDPA.

We take reasonable steps to make sure it is, using our providers' contracts and data protection terms, their security commitments and our own checks.

How long we keep it

We keep data only as long as we need it. The PDPA doesn't set fixed periods, so these are our own limits, based on why we hold each kind of data. We may delete sooner.

Your account, family, children's profiles and care entries
While the account, family or child is active, unless someone deletes an entry sooner.
After you delete your account, a child or a family
Access ends straight away. We delete the data from our live systems within 30 days.
Invitations
Usable for 7 days. The invitation code is deleted once it's used, cancelled or expired, and the email address it went to within 30 days after that.
Records of sign-ins and family changes
12 months from the event.
Which versions of our terms and this policy you accepted
While you have an account, then 24 months.
Privacy, deletion and support requests
24 months after we close the request.
Identity or legal evidence, in the rare cases we need it
Kept restricted, and deleted within 30 days after the matter is resolved, unless the law requires longer.
Notification settings and tokens
Deleted when you turn notifications off, the token stops working or you delete your account.
Technical logs
30 days or less.
Website visit records, only if you chose Accept
Up to 13 months, then deleted.
Security incident records
12 months, or longer only during an investigation or where the law requires it.
Backups we make ourselves
30 days, unless needed for an incident or a restore. Then deleted when that need ends.
Waitlist details
If you don't confirm your address, 7 days after the confirmation email. Otherwise until we send the email saying the app is in the stores for your phone, or sooner if you unsubscribe.
Your email on a food suggestion
Until we've dealt with your suggestion and replied, if you asked us to, and no longer than 90 days.

If a legal requirement or an active security investigation needs something kept longer, we keep only that, only for as long as needed, and record why.

Our database provider also keeps rotating backups. Deleted data can stay in a backup, out of use, until that backup expires. If we ever restore a backup, we apply deletions again before anyone can see the data.

Deleting and leaving

Delete your account

In the app, go to More, then Settings, then Account settings and deletion, then Delete account. If you can't sign in or no longer have the app, you can ask us by email instead.

You lose access straight away. Within 30 days we delete your account and every care entry you added, including notes, so your family's shared history and summaries may change.

We don't move your entries to anyone else. We keep only the limited records listed above, and they contain no care entries.

How account deletion works

Leave a family

You lose access to that family straight away, but your account stays, and what you added stays with the family. If you delete your account later, your entries are deleted then.

Delete a child or close a family

Only an Owner can do this, in More, then Settings, then Family & household. Everyone loses access straight away, and we delete the data from our live systems within 30 days. Deleting the last child closes the family.

Phones and copies

When a phone next connects and learns that access has ended, the app clears that family's data from it.

We can't erase a phone that stays offline or has been tampered with, or screenshots and copies made outside Newbie Parents. So sign out, and remove the app, on any phone you no longer use.

Security and data breaches

We protect your data with measures suited to family and children's information, including:

  • sign-in for every account;
  • access limited by family, child and role;
  • encrypted connections;
  • a small number of named administrators;
  • security records and careful handling of passwords and keys;
  • checks on our providers and on each release; and
  • a plan for responding to incidents.

No system is completely secure, so we can't promise that an incident will never happen.

If there's a data breach

We'll act quickly to contain it and work out what happened. We'll notify Singapore's Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) if the breach is likely to cause significant harm to the people affected, or affects 500 or more people.

We'll do this as soon as we can, and no later than three calendar days after we assess that the breach must be reported.

If the breach is likely to cause you significant harm, we'll also tell you as soon as we can, where the law requires it, with what happened and what you can do to protect yourself.

Your rights

  • See your data. Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and how it has been used or shared in the past year.
  • Correct it. You can change many details in the app, depending on your role and who added them. Otherwise, ask us to correct a mistake or fill a gap.
  • Withdraw consent. Turn off optional features such as notifications, or ask us. For this website, use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. We'll explain what will change. Withdrawing doesn't undo earlier use, and some features may stop working.
  • Delete it. The app can't work without your account and family data, so to stop that use entirely, leave a family or delete your account.

To ask, email privacy@newbieparents.app from the address you use for Newbie Parents.

We'll check the request is really from you in the least intrusive way we can, protect other family members' data, and apply any exceptions the law sets.

We'll reply as soon as we reasonably can. If an access or correction request will take longer than 30 days, we'll tell you in writing when to expect our reply.

The app doesn't offer a download or export of your data, but you can always get a copy through an access request. If you're not happy with how we handled a request, you can contact the PDPC.

This website, cookies and forms

You can read this website without an account. It doesn't ask for or show any family, child or care information.

Cloudflare, which delivers the site, processes technical details such as your IP address, your browser and the page you asked for, to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don't use these to count or recognise you.

Counting visits, only if you agree

On your first visit we ask whether we may use cookies to count visits. Nothing is counted until you choose.

If you choose Accept, we use PostHog, a web analytics service, which stores a random ID in a cookie and in your browser's storage for up to 6 months. It records the pages you view, the website or campaign link that brought you here, your browser and device type, your approximate country, and whether you tapped "Join the waitlist" or a store link.

We've set PostHog not to keep your IP address, not to record your screen, and not to link visits to your name, email address or any app account. We use it only to see, in total, how people find and use this website so we can improve it. We don't use it for advertising and we don't sell it.

If you choose Decline, or don't choose, PostHog isn't loaded and your visit isn't counted. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as Decline.

We remember your choice in your browser for 6 months, then ask again. We also ask again if we change what we count.

To change your mind, use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. If you withdraw, we stop counting straight away and remove the PostHog cookie from your browser. Visits already counted stay in our totals until they are deleted at the end of the retention period.

np_consent, set by us
Remembers your cookie choice. Set after you choose, and kept for 6 months.
ph_ cookie and browser storage, set by PostHog for us
A random ID to count visits and returns. Set only after Accept, and kept for 6 months.

If you're in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on your consent for these analytics cookies. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, though we'd welcome the chance to help first.

Waitlist and food suggestions

Cloudflare stores what you send through these forms, and Resend sends the email confirming a waitlist sign-up. The forms set no cookies.

  • The waitlist asks for your email address and which phone you use, and optionally where you are in your parenting journey. We use it to confirm your address and send you one email when the app is in the stores.
  • A food suggestion asks about the food, and optionally for your email so we can reply. We use suggestions to improve our food guide.

Other websites and sources

Newbie Parents links to hospitals, public health agencies and other sources of guidance. A link shows where guidance comes from. It doesn't mean that organisation endorses us, and its own terms and privacy policy apply.

If we ever show commercial or affiliate content, we'll label it clearly and keep it separate from health and safety guidance, official information, your family's log and Insights.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy when the service, our providers, the law or our practices change, and update the version and date at the top.

If a change affects what we collect, why we use it or who receives it, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, where we reasonably can. Small wording fixes won't need anything from you.

Can we count your visit?

We'd like to use cookies to count visits and see which pages help parents most. If you accept, your browser gets a random ID so we can tell when you come back. If you decline, we don't count your visit at all. Either way, we never learn anything about your baby, and nothing is used for ads. How we use cookies
